Melfort Divorce FAQs

How long does an uncontested divorce take?

From the first consultation to court filing, most uncontested divorces take about 4–8 weeks, depending on how quickly both parties share information and make decisions. Court processing adds a few more weeks, and we stay in touch the whole way.

Can I get independent legal advice through Peace?

Both parties are always encouraged to obtain independent legal advice before signing any agreement. We are happy to provide independent legal advice for one party. The other party should obtain independent legal advice from another family law professional. This keeps the process fair for everyone.

What if my partner already has a lawyer?

That's completely fine. We work with the other party's lawyer or representative on your behalf, so you also have licensed guidance on your side. Agreements tend to be stronger when both people have proper advice.

Is spousal support included?

When spousal support applies, we explain the factors involved, work through what's reasonable, and draft fair terms. It's addressed as part of your uncontested divorce service.

Is the fixed fee really all-inclusive?

Your tier covers the work described for that package—consultation, drafting, negotiation, and filing. We flag anything that would fall outside it before doing the work, so the price you agree to is the price you pay.

Do I have to travel to a courthouse in Melfort?

No. The whole process is virtual, so there's no need to attend a courthouse or office in person. We prepare and submit the required documents on your behalf and keep you updated, so finalizing your divorce never depends on a drive across the valley.
